From the outside it looks just like any other Fusion but the vehicle tips the scales at just 1,195 kg (2,634 lbs) which makes it 363 kg (800 lbs) lighter than the regular model. The 23 percent weight reduction was possible by using aluminum, high-strength steel, magnesium and carbon fiber for the construction of several components.
The rear window is no longer made from glass as this was replaced with polycarbonate while the windshield and side panes make use of chemically toughened glass. Under the hood is a Fiesta-sourced 3-cylinder 1.0-liter turbocharged engine but this has been modified with aluminum connecting rods and carbon fiber front cover, oil pan and cam carrier.
The Ford Lightweight Concept Car was fitted with 19-inch carbon fiber wheels wrapped around in slim 155/70 tires, with stopping power coming from cast aluminum disc brakes featuring stainless steel coating
